TS10: Significant Discomfort

If I recall correctly, Bon Iver’s 22, A Million was not the only record released on September 30, 2016. There was this other record folks were raving about as well. It took me a little longer to get around to listening to Solange’s A Seat at the Table, but it has had an impact on me as well. I won’t go into great detail here about the album as a whole, but I will say that it has challenged me deeply in, I think, really important ways.

I’ve included a song from that album on this week’s TS10. Admittedly, I’m a little uncomfortable with this particular song, which is why I feel I need to share it. I don’t like some of the words used, but I think this song is important. It sounds like a raw expression of profound anger and deep, deep frustration in response to injustices to which I simply cannot relate. So, for all of my fellow old, white folks out there, I’d ask you to listen with an open heart and mind. Let’s be challenged together.
